Treatment and Characterization of Wastewater from Tissue Paper Making Industry Using Bamboo as Raw Material

This article focused on the treatment and characterization of wastewater from tissue paper making industry located in AkwaIbom State which uses bamboo as raw material. The samples generated during pulping bleaching processes were collected, analyzed to determine pollution loads thereafter treated ascertain its suitability for disposal into environment using standard methods by American Public Health Association (APHA). results obtained before pH (7.42 4.49), EC (316µS/cm 47µS/cm), TDS (158mg/l 24mg/l), Turbidity (19.3NTU 28.7NTU), BOD5 (74.02mg/l 62.00mg/l), COD (140.30mg/l 120.40mg/l), TOC (10.3% 7.1%), selected heavy metals like, Pb (0.281mg/l 0.273mg/l), Ni (0.115mg/l 0.117mg/l), Co (0.193mg/l 0.208mg/l). corresponding values after (8.08 7.88), (4.00µS/cm 4 µS/cm), (2.00mg/l 2mg/l), (9.6NTU 5.1NTU), (4.06mg/l 4.11mg/l), (14.20mg/l 12.80mg/l), (0.1% 0.1%), with like (0.040mg/l 0.041mg/l), (0.003mg/l 0.005mg/l) (0.011mg/l 0.015mg/l). average extent was slightly above 70% unit sample about 80% that unit. study recommends disposal.
